Labs and lectures on test procedures, calculations and criteria involved with grading asphalt binders in the Performance-Graded (PG) asphalt binder specification (AASHTO M320).

The Basic Training course consists of 4 hours of procedure-specific lectures, 20 hours of intensive hands-on labs, and a review exam during the last half day. The curriculum covers all phases of AASHTO M320 classification, including hands-on sample preparation and testing using the rotational viscometer, dynamic shear and bending beam rheometers, and direct tension tester.

Who Should Attend

Asphalt technologists, engineers, consultants, scientists, and technicians responsible for asphalt testing, materials approval, specification and quality control for pavements. Knowledge of the Superpave binder specification will also benefit local and state materials and federal agency personnel, contractors, and university educators. A background in asphalt testing is helpful but not necessary to understand the course material.

Fees & Registration

The registration fee is $900 for the Basic Binder Technology Course. Registration fees must be received prior to the course date. The registration fees cover all seminar materials, refreshments, and lunches.

Early registration is recommended as the class is limited to 6 students. Cancellations are subject to a 20% surcharge of total course fees and require three weeks notice to avoid forfeiture of the balance paid. Substitutions are permitted.

Rates are $92 for single and $102 for double occupancy and include a continental breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
